Guardian Home Program

What is a Guardian Home?
We believe that every dog should grow up in a loving home and get the one-on-one
attention and care that they deserve. To achieve this and give our breeding dogs the
best possible life, we must limit the number of dogs in our household. Our Guardian
Home Program allows families to raise and care for our red toy poodles as their forever
companion, while also remaining a part of our breeding program. This allows us to
grow and continue to perfect the breed without sacrificing the dog’s happiness, health,
and need for family love.
How it Works
Currently, we only have females available in our Guardian Home Program. The
Guardian family will be responsible for all aspects of normal pet ownership. This
includes providing food, routine vet care, grooming/hygiene, and basic obedience
training. Once the dog turns 18 months old, we will pay for all the breeding required
health testing to be performed. If the dog does not pass any of the health tests and
does not make it into our program, she will stay with the Guardian family and live the
rest of her life as a normal pet.
If the dog passes all the health testing and makes it into our program, the dog will need
to be made available to us for breeding.
-
Guardian families must notify us at the first sign that the female is in heat.
-
She will have progesterone testing and breeding a few times within two weeks after the first sign of heat. We will only need her a few hours at a time during this period.
-
At approximately 4 weeks post breeding, she will have ultrasound to confirm pregnancy. We will only need her for a few hours for the appointment.
-
At approximately 7 weeks post breeding, she will have x-ray for puppy count. We will only need her for a few hours for the appointment.
-
1 week before delivery, she will return to us to whelp and care for her puppies. She will remain with us until her puppies are weaned (up to 8 weeks). You are always welcome to visit her and her puppies during this time.
-
We breed our females up to 4 times, always allowing full recovery between litters.
-
After retirement, she will be spayed and full ownership transfers to you.
-
We will provide a minimum of 24 hours’ notice for any breeding/health testing appointment.
What are the Benefits for the Guardian?
• Get huge discount on Guardian home dog/puppy’s rehoming fee.
• The Guardian family will be getting our highest quality dog or “pick of the litter”.
Sometimes these are 8-week-old puppies and sometimes they are adult dogs.
• The Guardian family will receive compensation for each successful litter whelped.
What are the Requirements?
• Guardian families must live within one hour from us. Contact us for exceptions.
• Must have a fenced yard.
• Must provide normal costs of raising a pet - routine veterinary care, grooming,
flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dog licensing, basic obedience training.
• Must follow our dietary guidelines and preventative health care
recommendations.
• Guardian dogs must be indoor dogs and not left outside unattended.
• No intact male should ever be on the premises. Guardian families must agree to
never allow their Guardian dog to be bred to any other dog.
• Must allow us to visit the Guardian dog at your home a few times per year.
• Must be willing to meet us for breeding/health testing appointments.
We maintain very high standards as to who can own our dogs and how they are treated
and cared for. All guardian homes sign a contract that outlines exactly what the terms
of the agreement are. This protects all parties involved.
